CUPPING This therapy is designed to stimulate the flow of blood and Qi within the superficial muscle layers. In traditional cupping the cups are heated which creates a vacuum and suctions the cups to the skin. The cups maybe moved over an area or kept in one place. The cups may leave a slight red mark that will usually dissipate in a couple of days. Cups are used to release sore tight muscles, release tension, cough, asthma and gastro-intestinal disorders. MOXIBUSTION Moxibustion is a traditional Chinese medicine technique that involves the burning of mugwort to facilitate healing. Moxibustion has been used throughout Asia for thousands of years. THe moxa warms the area being treated in order to strengthen the blood, stimulate the flow of qi, and maintain general health. In indirect moxibustion, a practitioner lights one end of a moxa stick, roughly the shape and size of a cigar, and holds it close to the area being treated. The patient experiences a pleasant warming sensation that penetrates the skin.
